Manage the operations and financial success of a business unit which may include one or more hauling companies, transfer stations, landfills and/or MRFs. Responsible for the efficient and safe work activities of all division employees; responsible for providing assistance to managers, supervisors and employees and resolving the problems and concerns as required

  • Interface with regional staff in formulating short and long-term goals consistent with the company's financial and operational objectives
  • Represent and uphold company ethics -- environmental operating, regulatory, safety and accounting policies and standards -- by encouraging and exemplifying professionalism
  • Effectively communicate company objectives, goals, business plans, concerns and philosophies to division employees. Ensure positive morale of those employees
  • Provide guidance and direction to division managers/supervisors in budgeting process. Influence staff in designing budgets that contribute acceptable margin improvements and significant annual growth
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and expertise, and oversee hiring, training and performance management of business unit employees
  • Interact with staff on current operations. Assist staff with their needs, resolve concerns and difficulties, and conduct routine site inspections
  • Monitor current status vs. budget (P&L's CER cash flow, A/R-DSO etc.) and develop realistic attainable action items for areas needing improvement
  • Responsible for the execution, follow up and sustainability of planned operating improvements
  • Improve and maintain communications and timeliness, and ensure accuracy of reporting and collection of data
  • Oversee and maintain an effective accident prevention program, ensure all reasonable actions are taken to prevent accidents or injuries, and ensure a safe and productive work environment for all employees
  • Interact professionally and courteously with customers, vendors, members of the community and municipal and other government employees
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

  • Effective interpersonal communication across various levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports, business documents, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related regulations
  • Strong leadership, coaching and motivational skills




Education: High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience. Associates or Bachelor's degree in business, civil engineering, construction management, operations management or related field is preferred.

Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years management and job-related experience including experience in sales, operations and/or maintenance functions. Significant experience working around construction sites or heavy equipment requiring awareness of health and safety requirements is required. Prior experience in waste or transportation industry desired

Certifications: Valid Class A or B CDL is preferred

  • Company system applications (ex. TRUX, Haul-It, Weigh-It, RTA)
  • Standard office software -- Word, Excel, Explorer
  • Other software as applicable (mapping software and GPS-systems)




  • Usual office environment
  • May require travel to multiple sites including transfer stations and/or landfills




  • Ability to organize various office systems through adjusting, connecting, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending or folding for the purpose of proper records development and/or management
  • Ability to use a computer and related devices, such as a keyboard or mouse or other related equipment, throughout the workday while seated at a desk or workstation
